The latest version of Google Maps 9.5.1 is updated on March 9, 2015. Google maps 9.3.0 for android mobile .apk file is android package for your mobile to install maps apps on mobile. Google has released an update for the Google Maps Android app, bringing it to version 9.5.1. Available to download here, the new version has a sleek new look which mimics the new browser-based maps update currently going through beta testing. There are now fewer buttons, menus and text on-screen, letting you see as much of the map as possible. Fonts are better defined and easier to read on high resolution smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S4 or HTC One, and the white boxes for looking up addresses or finding directions bear a striking resemblance to Google Now.
Explore new places, discover local favorites, and navigate your world with Google Maps. Available on Android phones and tablets with a simple, easy-to-use design.
– Get where you need to go quickly with voice guided turn-by-turn GPS navigation, or try public transit, biking, and walking directions
– Find the perfect spot for any occasion with local reviews from trusted friends and experts
– Tour cities with stunning, 360-degree Street View and see inside restaurants, museums and more
– Sign in to save favorite locations, get tailored recommendations, and access past searches across devices
Beyond aesthetics, the update greatly improves navigation by displaying alternate routes much clearer than on previous versions. Traffic problems and road work warnings appear instantly and the directions will dynamically re-route if you deviate from your chosen path. Reviews are now more prominent, too, with photos, street view and details appearing from the bottom of the screen when you tap a location. If you leave the the omnibar blank and just tap it, it will bring up your Explore card of the app. This will look different everywhere (mine were just logos, but I’ve seen some with pictures too). This will replace you going to the Local app to look for nearby goodies. It will let you find your local restaurants, bars, gas stations, events, etc. With the review cards it will give you all the information like you searched it yourself. You will also see a “Featured by Zagat” part since, you know, they own them now too. This Explore section is bigger and better than what Local did, so it is a much welcomed improvement.
Unfortunately, the new version loses some features compared to the older release – offline maps are no longer available. There is a workaround though: type “OK Maps” into the search bar and the currently displayed map will be cached to your device.
The biggest absence people have noticed in this update is Google’s removal of offline maps. The feature is not actually gone, just hidden. We’ve already covered how to download cached maps for offline use in the new version, and it has since been revealed that offline maps has been added back as a “hidden feature” in Google Maps version 8 accessible by typing “OK Maps” into the search bar. The name is either a nod to Google Glass’ command words (“OK Glass”) or is a subtle bash of how inadequate offline maps are in comparison to Google Maps’ data-rich offering when connected to the Web. Regardless, it is still in your app, so you can stop panic-searching for a way to go back to the old version.
As a whole, the new Google Maps is pretty impressive. The new features that offer a more clear view of the road ahead while navigating are welcome and appear like they have the ability to be instant time savers for those that utilize them. The exclusion – or hiddenness – of previous features appear to be little more than minor inconveniences and aren’t outweighed by having things like Zagat-powered reviews and suggestions built in to the app. Users of Google Maps 8.0 can expect their road trips to go smoother and their roadside stops to be better. That’s pretty much the most you can ask for in a navigation app.
