Adobe has released Flash Player 11 right on schedule and you can now grab them from the Market. The changelog is pretty spares, noting only “performance improvements and bug fixes related to security and stability,” but the power of the internet (and a handy link from Adobe) points us to the release notes. Support for new compression methods, better support for high resolution pictures, protected streaming improvements (will help with DRM issues), and many other small fixes — which all add up to better performance. These improvements are the first step towards Stage 3D, which quite frankly looks amazing. If you already have Flash installed, grab the update from the Market, if not, the link is after the break.
Up until 2012, Flash Player 11 was available for the Android (ARM Cortex-A8 and above), although in June 2012, Google announced that Android 4.1 (codenamed Jelly Bean) will not support Flash by default. Starting in August 2012, it is not possible to install Flash Player onto Android devices, and only devices with Flash already installed are updated. Adobe’s Flash player plug-in allowed multimedia content using the Flash format for web browser. It’s continuing the development for PC’s and would also support the tool Air.
Two-third users of Google Play gave Flash Player a top score, but as per Adobe its fame would be affected and it removed the plug-in due to “unpredictable behavior” that was to exhibit because of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Adobe also clears to the smartphone owners to uninstall the plug-in, who had or have up-graded to the latest OS.
Adobe promises to continue offering security updates and bug fixes to existing version until September 2013; but fully withdraws from developing player for Android, Symbian and Blackberry devices. As far as Apple iOS is concerned, it never released any player for the Cupertino devices.
